Kai Wellendorf necklace box. It is handmade inlay work (marquetry) made of veneer by the artist Kai Wellendorf. The work depicts a robin sitting on a branch, with the bird's details carved from different types of wood and laid precisely into the dark, patterned background of root knot veneer.
Kai Wellendorf's works are known for an extremely high standard of craftsmanship, where he assembles fine pieces of exotic veneer like a puzzle to create lifelike motifs of birds, animals and nature.
It is from around 1950 to 1960.
The box measures 16.5 x 16.5 cm.
